Take The Training Wheels Off Talk

A featured piece that I wrote about Michaele Antoine - founder of Curios, a learning studio that helps people gain the tools they need to have conversations that matter.

What do you do when you need to have a difficult conversation with a co-worker, friend, or even respected family member? I can tell you what I’ve seen many people do - either avoid it or have a surface-level version of the conversation they really need to have. I truly believe that if people would just be real with one another and make an effort to genuinely connect, we could avoid a lot of unnecessary problems we’ve either personally experienced or heard about on the news. The problem is simple: human beings don’t know how to talk to one another, and we certainly don’t know how to disagree. And how would we? It’s not something that we’re explicitly taught growing up, but rather something we’ve had to learn through lived experience, trial and error.

So how do we fix it?

We can start by doing what Michaele Antoine calls “taking the training wheels off talk.”

I was fortunate enough to connect with her through Girlboss and she agreed to tell me about her story and what she hopes to accomplish with Curios, the organization she founded. The piece I wrote was published on the Girls Are Awesome platform and I couldn’t be happier to not only have been published, but to be helping spread the message of Curios’ mission.
